I'm currently sitting in the airport at Seattle waiting to board the flight to Maui, but I'd like to recall something I heard on the flight from Newark here. A person seated in the row behind me on the plane stated that the flight was 2,000 miles (wrong) and was 1/8th of the distance around the world (also wrong).
The people he was speaking to didn't correct him, but perhaps it was because he spoke the aforementioned untruths with such conviction.

I was wrong about that one
It's been brought to my attention that in a previous post, I had predicted that Jim and Pam would be getting engaged in the season finale of The Office.
Well, as it turns out, I was wrong. My bad.

Really?
My university sent me a letter letting me know that as an alumni, I have been given a $5,000 term life insurance policy for the upcoming year.
I'm not quite sure what to say...except that if the value of the policy is supposed to be any reflection on what the present value of my future earnings will be, my school doesn't expect me to have much of a future at all.

Hiatus upcoming
I haven't a clue how many people read my blog, but I will be posting much more sporadically over the upcoming week. I'll be taking a post-graduation trip with my girlfriend to Maui...which should be great fun. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post once I get back to the mainland.
Well, it's official
I have officially graduated and am no longer a student. After 17 years of formal schooling, it's all over.
I will admit, it was a little bit of an eerie feeling leaving campus today for the last time.

The universality of graduation ceremonies
Like every other graduation ceremony I've attended (which is now 6, as I had to go to my high school's graduation every year as a part of the school band), today's ceremony went a bit too long and required me to do far too much of nothing (namely, arriving an hour early - at 7:45 in the morning - and standing in place for that amount of time). The speeches by the bigwigs were subpar; it was the student speaker and the professors honored for excellence that were the highlights of the show.
Oh, and I would've thought that families would have grown up beyond using airhorns during the roll call after high school. I guess I was wrong.

Philadelphia drivers suck
Someone needs to get the drivers in this city educated. I was driving back to my dorm from brunch after today's graduation, and I got stuck in traffic down in Center City because people can't parallel park for their life.
Moral of the story: if you learn how to drive in New York, you will be a superior driver to just about everyone else. It also pisses you off much faster when incompetent drivers waste your time.

Early to rise makes me grumpy
I know I have to wake up early for work once I begin, but do I really need to haul my butt out of bed sometime before 7 in the morning for a graduation ceremony? That seems excessively early to my tender sensitivities.
